چکیده

With the recent emergence of several new telepresence robot platforms, companies are investigating these technologies for ad-hoc conversations beyond the conference room. This technology has the potential to increase cohesion for people who work in a remote location away from their team. We hypothesize that seniors and people with disabilities may find similar benefits while remaining connected with their remote family and friends. We discuss our design of a telepresence robot system for use by this target population. We describe an upcoming pilot study in which people with special needs will operate the telepresence robot at their families’ homes and discuss the potential of these robots for telecommuting.

Addressing the Long-term Evaluation of a Telepresence Robot for the Elderly

This paper presents aspects of an ongoing work for a long-term evaluation of a telepresence robot named GIRAFF, as a tool for facilitating interaction and support delivery to older people living at home. Most robotic systems are usually used for short periods of time and in laboratory settings, while this paper describes the challenges, both technological and related to the user evaluation that...

A Telepresence Robot System Realized by Embedded Object Concept

This paper presents the Embedded Object Concept (EOC) and a telepresence robot system which is a test case for the EOC. The EOC utilizes common object-oriented methods used in software by applying them to combined Lego-like software-hardware entities. These entities represent objects in object-oriented design methods, and they are the building blocks of embedded systems. The goal of the EOC is ...

Designing and Implementing a Practical Course of "Pharmacotherapy in Special Populations" for Medical Interns

Introduction: Learning how to use medications rationally is an important and key issue in medical education. The aims of this study were needs assessment, designing and implementing practical training on pharmacotherapeutic issues in special populations (pregnant women, nursing mothers who are breast-feeding, infants, and elders) for medical interns. Methods: This study was conducted in two con...

A Study of Enhanced Robot Autonomy in Telepresence

Many telepresence robots have been developed, but most offer little more than a webcam on wheels, with the user being in control of every function of the robot. In order to enhance the users’ ability to remotely communicate, navigate and feel present in a remote environment, we argue that a higher degree of autonomy is required. In this paper a telepresence system is presented that assists the ...

International Master’s Thesis Telepresence Robot: an Effective Drive Interface Using the Augmented Reality

Telepresence robots allow people to explore remote environments, interacting to other people between long distance. A person only needs to know how to drive them in order to feel his/herself inside a remote environment. The main goal of this project is to provide a user interface that improves the user’s depth perception through a 2D visual feedback and, as a secondary target, to allow non-expe...
